Alaska’s former Senator Ted Stevens’ position on the gas line has changed since he was last in front of Congress. Making a rare Anchorage appearance on March 12th, Stevens shared his new ideas on “The Future of Alaska’s Natural Gas” at a luncheon hosted by Commonwealth North. Pushing for a bullet line to be built to Kenai, Stevens says Alaskans need to focus on getting a gas line built fast and exporting it to Asia where the demand is the greatest.

Assembly postpones Knik Arm Connection

By a six-five split, Tuesday night the Anchorage Assembly voted again to delay the Knik Arm Bridge project until 2018. The vote was advisory only, but that didn’t reduce the fervor of the public hearing.

Maurer’s home in Naramata, BC has received numerous awards for architecture and sustainable design.

Born in Germany, Florian Maurer has practiced architecture in White Horse, Yukon Territory, Lana, Italy and Naramata, BC. In the Yukon Maurer designed many buildings in isolated communities and a harsh climate. His designs adapted to the conditions of Canada’s North and provided an alternative to generic imports from the South. Hosted by the Alaska Design Forum at the Anchorage Museum, Florian Maurer spoke on “Latitude Attitude” as part of the Latitude Lecture series on March 8th.

Hometown, Alaska: How Dogs Help Humans

You might have heard him huffing and puffing and wandering around the studio during today’s program. In addition to Corey Aist of Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs and Renee Leyland from Stone Soap Group Pet Therapy, Snap was a guest on this week’s Hometown, Alaska. Photo by Kristin Spack

The thunder of doggy paws can be heard all over Alaska during the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. But man’s best friend has many other talents, too. Some dogs guide the blind. Some dig avalanche victims out of the snow. Some are getting through to autistic youngsters. This week on Hometown, Alaska host Ellen Lockyer explores how dogs help humans.
