Senator Lisa Murkowski speech to the legislature

Tonight at 7:00 pm KSKA will broadcast Senator Lisa Murkowski’s address to the legislature recorded earlier this morning.

Bioneers and Encounters will follow Murkowski’s address. Living Planet and The Health Show will continue next week on KSKA.

Senator Mark Begich’s speech to the Alaska legislature is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31st.

President Obama: State of the Union

KSKA will broadcast President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address LIVE tonight  at 5:00 pm. The Republican response from Virgina Governor Robert McDonnell withll follow. Coverage of the president’s State of the Union address begins Wednesday night at 5:00 pm (AKST) on FM 91.1.

Governor Sean Parnell: State of the State

KSKA FM 91.1 and 360 North (Channel 7.3 in Anchorage) will simulcast Governor Sean Parnell’s State of the State address live from Juneau tonight from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.

Hosted by APRN’s Dave Donaldson and KTOO’s Rosemary Alexander, the Governor is expected to give a 25 – 30 minute speech. An analysis will follow.

Sean Parnell is Alaska’s 10th Governor. Parnell, a Republican, was elected as Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor in November, 2006 and ascended to the office of Governor in July 2009.

“Are We Alone?” will return next week at 7:00 pm on KSKA.

Schedule Updates: Holiday Programming

The lights are hung, the candles are lit, the Christmas trees decorated, and holiday programming has begun on KSKA FM 91.1. On the fourth day (Tuesday, Dec. 15) of the festival of lights, KSKA’s Len Anderson invites you to celebrate Hanukkah in Anchorage. Learn more about the Hanukkah celebration happening this week at Providence Medical Center on A Closer Look, this afternoon at 2:30 pm.

Holiday specials including such favorites as, NPR’s Hanukkah Lights 2009, Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, The Messiah, Christmas with the Morehouse and Spelman Glee Clubs continues on KSKA through next year and concludes with a special Anchorage Edition: Year in Review on Saturday, January 2nd.

President Obama Address: The Plan for Afghanistan

Today President Obama announced his plan to send thounsands more U.S. troops to Afghanistan in the months ahead. Obama is scheduled to address the nation on his strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan tomorrow, Tuesday December 1st  at 4:00 pm (AKST). You can hear the President’s address live from the United States Militay Academy at West Point during the first hour of All Things Considered Tuesday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm on KSKA.

The Commonwealth Club welcomes Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, hosts of the popular television series. The MythBusters will tell you the truth about science. They don’t call themselves scientists or physicists, just curious guys doing fun things. Join in the fun and listen to this special program on KSKA with The MythBusters, Wednesday afternoon at 2:00p.m. repeating Wednesday evening at 10:00 pm Hometown, Alaska will return next week (12/02).

When we sit down to Thanksgiving dinner, do we know what we’re commemorating? On the holiday special called, BackStory, on KSKA, the History Guys search for the roots of Thanksgiving. They discover that the holiday we celebrate today begins with the Victorians, who in the midst of the Civil War sought a holiday honoring home and family. They’ll find out if Thanksgiving strengthen the Union, as its proponents had hoped and, what relation Indians have to the holiday in reality and in myth. And ,what does football have to do with it? These are some of the questions on the table as BackStory digs into an American classic on KSKA,  Thursday afternoon at 2:00p.m. Addressing Alaskans will return next week (12/03).

6:00 pm – A Closer Look
An encore of A Closer Look recorded this summer features producer Annie Feidt talking to Dr. Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She was in Alaska for nearly a week this summer to tour the state. She also held the first in a series of public meetings this year to help inform future federal policy on the nation’s oceans. Alaska News Nightly will return tomorrow (11/27).
