Live Coverage: President Obama on Iraq

Tuesday during All Things Considered President Barrack Obama will address the nation from the Oval Office. Obama promised in 2009 to end the formal “combat” mission in Iraq on August 31. Earlier this week the White House said the number of U.S. troops staged in Iraq had fallen below 50,000. Iraq is scheduled to assume its own security after Tuesday, with the U.S. falling into an advisory and backup role. President Obama makes his second official Oval Office address to the nation on  All Things Considered (Tuesday) from 4:00 – 4:30 pm.

During the second half of Talk of the Nation this morning, we will hear highlights of what Elena Kagan had to say in the first three days of testimony. NPR’s coverage will also include key exchanges with the nominee and members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, major themes of the hearing including her experience and political views and highlights from her career. Joining host Neal Conan is David Savage who covers the Supreme Court for the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune.

In place of Marketplace this afternoon, from 1:30 – 2:00 pm you heard the first six tracks off An Evening with David Lanz. Unfortunately KSKA did not receive the 1:00 pm feed of Marketplace due to a glitch in the new program delivery system NPR is testing today. Marketplace for Tuesday June 8 will air at its normal time tonight at 6:30 pm on KSKA. We apologize if you missed Marketplace and hope you were one of the many who enjoyed the piano music this afternoon.

Friday, May 28: Gubernatorial Fisheries Debate 2010

Once again the debate between candidates for Alaska governor on fisheries issues is taking place in Kodiak during this year’s Crab Festival. KSKA will air the debate live from Kodiak Friday May 28, 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

Since 1990 the lively, two hour debate has attracted 100% participation by candidates for Alaska governor and U.S. Congress. In fact, every winning candidate has participated in the event. Laine Welch, producer of Fish Radio will host the debate with panelists, Margie Bauman and Wesley Loy, all experienced reporters, especially with fishing issues. Media panelists posing questions to the candidates are limited to a single topic: Alaska’s seafood industry. Listen to the Gubernational Fisheries Debate 2010 LIVE from Kodiak, Friday May 28, 7:00 – 9:00 pm on KSKA FM 91.1.

KSKA PROGRAMMING NOTES: Putumayo World Music and Thistle and Shamrock will move back two hours on Friday night to air at 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm respectively. Algo Nuevo will air at it’s regular time at 11:00 pm on Friday. The Brazilian Hour and Afropop can be heard Sunday evening at 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm respectively.

APTI Engineers will be working on KSKA’s hybrid digital (HD) signal tonight (Tuesday May 18) from 10:00p.m. to midnight. Analog delivery of programming may experience some outages this evening while the work is being done. Work should be completed by midnight.
