His Excellency Sergey Ivanovich Kislyak has served in the Russian Foreign Ministry since 1977, including stints as ambassador to Belgium, Russian representative to NATO, and from 2003 – 2008 deputy minister of foreign affairs. Facing the remnants of what he describes as a “Cold War mentality,” Ambassador Kislyak explains how Russian relations with the United States have progressed since the fall of the Soviet Union, touching on the South Ossetia war this past summer and Russian cooperation with Syria and Venezula.

Dear Sir.
I wish to thank you and your wonderful nation that has suffered so much from wars, and terrorism, for the beautiful monument that your nation gave to the Citizens of the USA, remembering they who died
in the terrorist attacks on 9/11.
I just learned of this today.
And have passed the email along, about the generosity of your great people to the people of the USA. I pray our two great peoples can work towards a world that is free of terrorism.
I’d always wondered why we two peoples could not work together, instead of being at odds with each other so often.
I am glad Mr Bush is gone, and President Obama is now our president. Perhaps indeed, a new era of cooperation of our two great peoples will now ensue. What wonderful things our two peoples could do for the world, if we worked together to stamp out terrorism every where it lifts it’s ugly head.
God bless you, your people, and the great Russian Federation. Sincerely.
