Temporary and permanent housing can’t keep up with Anchorage homelessness
Tue, Sep 30, 2008
Homelessness in Anchorage is growing. And the number of homelesss families and individuals continues to outnumber emergency and low-cost housing available in the city. Those were just two of the bleak observations contained in the annual update on homelessness in Anchorage.

Line One: Evaluating medical information online
Mon, Sep 29, 2008
Before you self diagnosis the pain in your back or the itch on your arm based on your online research, take a closer look at the website where you found the information. While many medical websites may be reliable, its easy to find information written by someone with no credentials or medical background whatsoever. Today on Line One, Dr. Woodard and his guest, Dr. Daniel Friedland take a close look at health information on the internet. A leader in the evidence-based medicine movement and author of Evidence-Based Medicine: A Framework for Clinical Practice, Dr. Friedland tells you the appropriate steps to take online, before you decide what steps to take regarding that itch.

Anchorage Edition: September 26, 2008
Fri, Sep 26, 2008
Each week, host Michael Carey gathers journalists and commentators for a review of the week’s news, politics and public affairs in Anchorage and Alaska. Topics this week include:
- Ted Stevens trial begins in Washington, DC as the campaign goes on at home in Alaska
- Sarah Palin tours New York, meets foreign leaders… but talks to the media only sparingly
- How is the Wall Street and banking meltdown playing out in Alaska? Will it affect the election for U.S. House and U.S. Senate in Alaska?
- The politics of “Troopergate” have bogged down, with little relief in sight
- The media’s coverage of Sarah Palin — fair? accurate? What about coverage produced by reporters dropping into Alaska from Outside?

Urban bears prompt city debate
Fri, Sep 26, 2008
Has Anchorage outgrown its ability to co-exist with the bears who roam within municipal boundaries? Last night the public safety committee of the Anchorage Assembly held a special meeting in search of an answer. But as Len Anderson reports, the committee may have only found more questions.
