After listening to today’s “Talk of Alaska”, I lost a great deal of respect for Nellie Moore. Her tremendous bias toward NANA and Cominco was clearly evident in the manner in which she structured this program and the “softball” questions she lobbed at her guests. The whole program came across as one big commercial for Red Dog Mine. Why wasn’t anyone other than NANA/Red Dog employees asked to speak on Red Dog operations and the Clean Water Initiative–a topic that impacts more than just NANA shareholders, which include Moore. She didn’t need to tell her audience that. It was abundantly clear in the manner in which she conducted her interview. Her questions sounded like they had been scripted by Cominco’s PR department. Why weren’t the sponsors of the Clean Water Initiative asked to participate? What happened to journalistic integrity at KSKA? If Nellie Moore no longer adheres to acceptable standards of journalism, surely KSKA still does. Moore did a great disservice to all Alaskans by presenting such a bias discussion of a very important issue.
