After months of speculation, Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich has announced he is forming an “exploratory committee” for a possible run for Ted Steven’s U.S. Senate seat. Yesterday’s first step doesn’t make Begich an official candidate, but it does edge him closer to a full declaration.

Community Forum: Pools and facilities, bond propositions

On April 1, Anchorage area voters will decide the fate of 20 bond propositions. Last week we looked at Propositions 2 and 3 impacting area schools. Today on Community Forum, host Nellie Moore and her guests, Peter Crosby from People for Pools and Anchorage public library bond chair, Mary Rasmussen explore the non-school bonds on the ballot. Aside from numerous road service area issues, these bonds deal with roofs for libraries, the Sullivan Arena and the existing museum; swimming pool improvements; roads and drainage, and public safety and transportation.

KSKA, 91.9 in Girdwood

Concerned listeners in Girdwood, Alaska can be assured that FM 91.9 will soon return to the airwaves. The Girdwood translator went off this past Friday, February 22. KSKA’s engineers have been in contact with Telalaska and have determined the problem is at the translator site. Friday, KSKA’s contact at Alyeska informed us that there had been an avalanche close to the site and that they were working on clearing and grooming the area and that they would not be able to get us up to the site until this week. As of Tuesday, February 26 at 12:00 PM, KSKA’s lead engineer was on his way to Girdwood to work on restoring our KSKA translator. To all KSKA listeners in Girdwood - we apologize for this inconvenience, thank you for your patience, and hope to rejoin you on-air very soon.

Ceremony marks a quarter century of sheltering the homeless

Last week Anchorage’s Clare House celebrated 25 years of offering shelter to homeless women with children. The observance honored those who have contributed over the years to Clare House’s operations as well as those who have sought its service.
