Your show looks like it should be in black and white (which would have little effect on its appearance), with billows of cigarette smoke circling around people’s heads. I have nothing against middle-aged white males, being one myself, but your monotone cast of characters gives me little confidence I am getting a full picture of state news.
Hi Matt,
I understand. Diversity on Anchorage Edition’s panel is something we’ve been talking about too, which is why we were delighted that Rosemary Shinohara, editorial writer for the Anchorage Daily News, volunteered her lunch hour last Friday to participate. Since the format of the show is a group of working journalists analyzing and discussing the week’s top stories, ala Washington Week, we work with the pool of talent that exists in our community. (Did I mention the volunteer bit?) We think Michael Carey and his guests do an outstanding job of providing the background and the in-depth analysis of the week’s news. But we recognize the limitations of the format. Your comment has me thinking about the possibilities of expanding the scope of the program, perhaps right here online. As for the set… we sure could use a few bucks to spruce it up, couldn’t we? I mean, those flowers are circa 1957 or something and the high-definition cameras do nothing for the well-worn wood on the desk… but I digress. We have a pledge drive coming up in December. We need to raise $110,000 just to stay on budget, not including a new set. I hope we can count on you.
