KSKA at Low Power
Tue, Sep 11, 2007
Installation of KSKA’s transmitter equipment for analog and HD Radio continues at Goose Bay this week affecting KSKA’s signal. FM 91.1 will be at reduced power until the installation is complete. You may find that some radios are affected and others are not. Crews are working to replace two analog transmitters the station uses and add another antenna capable of transmitting HD Radio.
By the end of this week, transmissions will increase in power, but will still operate below half of their normal levels. Full-power transmissions are scheduled to resume by the end of the month.
We apologize for the reduction in power for KSKA during this important installation, but it is necessary to ensure a safe installation. Thank you for letting us know how important KSKA is to you and for your support.

Friday afternoon, September 10th, Deputy Attorney General Richard Svobodny of the Criminal Division of the Alaska Department of Law responded to Anchorage Mayor’s Mark Begich’s appraisal of the state’s Anchorage Attorney General’s office, including the mayor’s offer of political and possible financial aid. Anchorage mayor says Alaska DA’s office can’t handle workload

Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich says his increasing frustration with the crime enforcement division of the state law department has caused him to forge a stronger working relationship with the federal U.S. Attorney’s office. The head of the state’s law department says the municipality’s perceptions of the state District Attorney’s Anchorage office are just that — perceptions — and not reality.

Property Tax Relief Task Force begins rating tax alternatives
Thu, Sep 6, 2007
46% of Anchorage’s operating budget comes from property taxes. That’s down slightly from previous years, but hardly enough to keep the municipality and city property owners from looking for alternative sources of revenue. Spearheading that effort is the Property Tax Relief Task Force. KSKA’s Len Anderson attended its last meeting.

Since the relaunch of KSKA.org (yes, it’s still a work in progress) we’ve had only a few comments appear from our website visitors. We have a guess as to why.
Up to now, commenting required you to register with the site, and some folks consider that a bit of a hassle. So we’re going to try something out: we’re taking down that barrier to participation — as an experiment.
We’ve just opened up the commenting system one more notch. Site visitors may now submit a comment on any of our posts simply by including their name and e-mail address (e-mail addresses are not published). Submitted comments will still be moderated before appearing publicly, but we’re hoping this more open approach will allow folks to feel freer to participate.
