On Tuesday June 19, 2007, KSKA’s Len Anderson talked with Anchorage School District Superintendent Carol Comeau about the district’s efforts to create an extracurricular scheduling policy that recognizes the important cultural and religious observances of its students. The conversation took place immediately after the Policy Committee of the Anchorage School Board had discussed culturally-sensitive scheduling. The decision on scheduling was covered here on KSKA.org.

Anchorage Schools adopt student cell phone policy

cellphone.jpgWhen school starts this August, some Anchorage students will be using their cell phones more than ever, while others will experience some new restrictions. But according to a new policy adopted last night by the Anchorage School Board, for the first time the rules are the same for everyone.

ASAA rejects Anchorage sports schedule change

This afternoon the Alaska School Activities Association board voted 5-3 to reject an Anchorage School District request to hold the Region IV Cross Country Championships on a Sunday, September 21st, rather than on Saturday as originally scheduled.

Anchorage cross country championships may conflict with Yom Kippur

The Anchorage School District wants to move the date of this fall’s Region IV Cross Country Championships from Saturday September 22nd to Sunday the 23rd. But if the Alaska School Activities Association board says no, the district may have to settle for Friday the 21st.
